As of 28 October 2026 we found no OpenAI announcement of ChatGPT phoning businesses. ChatGPT agent works in a web browser and may book through your online booking page. A phone caller that says "ChatGPT" is most likely another company’s voice agent built on OpenAI’s models, or a scam.
How to recognise it
On the web: bookings through your own booking page or form, sometimes at odd hours.
On the phone: a voice that says "ChatGPT" or "OpenAI". That is not a known OpenAI product.
Is it legit?
Many voice agents run on OpenAI’s models, so "powered by ChatGPT" may be true while OpenAI is not the one calling. Treat the call like any unknown AI caller: ask who it calls for.
How to stop it or set your terms
There is no OpenAI phone opt-out because there is no known OpenAI calling feature.
Set your terms in the registry below; it covers web and phone.
What to say to the caller
"Which company runs you, and who is the customer?"
"Please book online at [your booking page]."
Red flags: probably a scam
It says "OpenAI" needs a payment or your login.
It pushes you to a link sent by text message.
It asks for money, a card number, a password or a code sent to your phone.
It threatens that your listing will disappear or be marked closed unless you act now.
It cannot tell you who the customer is or how to reach them.
It pushes you to press a key, install something or open a link from a text message.
Set your terms once, for every AI caller
Agent Terms by snuepi is a free public registry: you say whether AI agents may contact you, on which channel, how often, and which booking rules apply. Agents that check the registry follow it, and you can print a door sign for staff.
