Anyone can now build a voice agent cheaply. A real one wants something ordinary, like a booking or a price, and can say who it calls for. A scam wants money, card numbers, passwords or codes, or rushes you. You may always say no.
How to recognise it
It sounds natural, but answers the same way when you change the subject.
It may give no company name, a made-up one, or a big brand name it has nothing to do with.
The number shown proves nothing: caller IDs can be faked.
Is it legit?
Many are legitimate: assistants booking for real people, or a company checking prices. Some resell tables and slots, and some are scams. There is no central list of AI callers yet, which is why we collect reports.
How to stop it or set your terms
There is no central opt-out for AI callers today.
Decline politely and point to your online booking page.
Set your terms in the registry below, so agents that check it know your rules.
What to say to the caller
"Are you an AI? Which company runs you, and who are you calling for?"
"Please give me the customer’s name and number; we will confirm with them."
"We do not take bookings from automated calls."
Red flags: probably a scam
It uses a big brand name but asks for anything to do with money or logins.
It says you will lose your listing, a review or a customer if you do not act now.
It asks for money, a card number, a password or a code sent to your phone.
It threatens that your listing will disappear or be marked closed unless you act now.
It cannot tell you who the customer is or how to reach them.
It pushes you to press a key, install something or open a link from a text message.
Set your terms once, for every AI caller
Agent Terms by snuepi is a free public registry: you say whether AI agents may contact you, on which channel, how often, and which booking rules apply. Agents that check the registry follow it, and you can print a door sign for staff.
Tell us about an AI call your business got. It takes a minute, needs no account and no personal data. Reports help other businesses tell real agents from scams.
Frequently asked questions
Is it legal for an AI to call my business?
It depends on the country and on what the call is for. For advice on your case, ask your trade association.
Should I hang up?
You may. If it is a real booking, the customer can book online or call back themselves.
How do I report it?
Use the form on this page. If money was involved, also tell the police or your national fraud line.
